Apicotomy of dilacerated roots: see dilacerated root
Even ankylosis is a relative term. If the apex, which is the root tip, of the tooth is stuck, it can be broken off, and the tooth can be moved. This is the restorative version of apicotomy, not the one associated with root filling! This is a technique by Dr Edela Puricelli. Dr Puricelli has been doing it for 25 years, but it is largely unheard of in the US.
Apicoectomy means retrograde root canal treatment, as in killing the nerve and filling
up the pulp, after a root canal treatment has caused inflammation/infection. Dr. Puricelli's method leaves
the root intact and viable.
